Barcelona
The Barcelona Hotel España has recently opened its doors on November 2010 and is located in the heart of Barcelona’s historic centre. The Barcelona Hotel España is right next to La Rambla, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and La Boqueria market. You will find within walking distance the major touristic attractions as Plaça Catalunya, Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA), the Cathedral, the Gothic Quarter and countless other point s of interest.
The Barcelona Hotel España building originally dates from 1859 and it was first opened under the name Fonda de España. It was later renovated by the celebrated modernist architect Lluis Domènech i Montaner in the early twentieth century with the collaboration of Eusebi Arnau and Ramon Casas. The work was deservedly recognised by Barcelona City Council when, in 1904, who awarded the hotel with its Diploma of Honour for “best establishment decorated in the artistic-ornamental style” and its been always considered a jewel in the crown of Catalonian Modernism in the city of Barcelona.
Barcelona Hotel España's 2010 renovation project has recaptured the spirit that Domenech i Montaner first conceived for the hotel. The hotel’s modernist spaces have been restored to their original design, while, at the same time, installing the latest in technology, design and comfort with the principal objective of offering an exceptional personalised service and establishing the Barcelona Hotel España as a 4 Star hotel of excellence in Barcelona’s Old Town.
The Barcelona Hotel España offers 82 comfortable spacious rooms that combine modern interior design with the classicism of a nineteenth century building. The hotel’s restaurant service is under the management of the award-winning chef Martin Berasategui at the celebrated restaurant Fonda Espana.
