Costa del Garraf

The Garraf coast lies just past El Prat airport to the south of Barcelona and is located in the Baix Llobregat region, with the mouth of the Llobregat river as a border and the small seaside resort of Castelldefels, bustling in the summer with local families and tourists searching for long fine sandy beaches.

The Garraf boasts spectacular coastline along the windy two kilometre road from Castelldefels to Sitges. Amazing views of the sea can be seen from the curves meandering along the dry coastline. However, for those of you looking for a quicker, albeit less scenic route to Sitges, the toll motorway is a better option.

The pretty beach resort of Sitges is renowned for its bohemian atmosphere and meeting point for the gay community. The town is truly a fascinating place, full of contrasts, with tradition going hand in hand with an active and modern nightlife. Every year Sitges hosts a horror cinema festival and in Spring the streets are decorated with flowers to celebrate Corpus Christi.

A few kilometres south lies the capital of the Garraf, Vilanova y la Geltrú. Bursting with history and traditions, such as the yearly carnival, this town is an ideal place for family beach holidays.

The Garraf continues down the coast to Cubelles, a summer retreat for many Catalans and the birthplace of Charlie Rivel, considered one of the most famous clowns in the world.
