Carballeira Restaurant in Barcelona is located between the Port and Barceloneta district, near the old gate of the Port Vell (old harbour). It specializes in Galician cuisine, with fresh seafood being brought daily straight from Galicia.
Founded in 1944, this family-run restaurant is one of the historically classic restaurants in Barcelona and used to be frequented by smugglers, fishermen, soldiers and naval officers. Nowadays, the discerning clientele are from all walks of life, but mostly local residents.
Although fish and seafood, such as the delicious Galician octopus, are the restaurant's speciality, the Galician beef steaks, rice and paella dishes are also particularly good.
This restaurant has an extensive list of wine from various Spanish regions and the white wines from Galicia are especially worth tasting.
The spacious Restaurant Carballeira in Barcelona has been recently renovated, but keeping its original style. The kitchen has also been refurbished and is visible to diners.
