The Montjuïc Mountain hosted the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix four times between 1969 and 1975. After several years of its closure the Circuit de Catalunya was built in Montmeló in 1991. It plays hosts to the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix and Moto GP as well as many other racing series.

The Circuit de Catalunya has been the site of exciting moments with participation of Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansel, Mika Häkkinen from the very beginning and today with Raikkonen, Hamilton, Vettel and of course Fernando Alonso in Formula 1 and Rossi, Lorenzo, Pedrosa and Marc Márquez in Moto GP.
