Begin your walking tour at the Three Chimneys, where you’ll learn about the Industrial Revolution, the 1919 strike, and the 8-hour workday. Continue to the Medieval Walls and Royal Shipyards to hear about the Cerdà Plan and the demolition of the walls in 1854.
Next, visit the Columbus Monument and La Rambla. Learn why the statue points in the direction it does, why it is located here, and what the 1888 Universal Exposition celebrated. Discover the Arabic origins of the word 'Rambla' and how the street separated the walled city from the convents.
Continue to Palau Güell and Plaça Reial. Hear about the square's bohemian past and how it became a very international meeting place. Learn about the lampposts, which were one of Gaudí's first public commissions.
Next, visit Sant Miquel and learn about the human towers (castellers) and what they symbolize. Continue to the Bishop's Bridge and hear the famous skull legend.
