Description

If you want to discover the real Barcelona, start where locals do—not with a monument, but around a table. One of Catalonia’s most cherished traditions is hora de vermut: the moment when friends and families gather to enjoy vermouth, local wine or beer, share tapas and spend time together. More than an aperitif, it’s a ritual of conversation, hospitality and slowing down that has been part of everyday Catalan life for generations. We’ll welcome you into our independent ceramics studio in the heart of Gràcia, one of Barcelona’s most authentic neighborhoods, where you’ll experience the city through its traditions, craftsmanship and local stories. Together we’ll enjoy authentic Catalan vermouth, local wine or beer with Iberian ham, local cheeses, chorizo and olives while talking about Catalan culture and everyday life. You’ll discover why hora de vermut remains such an important tradition and why people here still value long conversations around the table. We’ll also explore Catalonia’s rich ceramic heritage. For centuries, handmade rajoles decorated homes, churches and public buildings, telling stories through colour, pattern and craftsmanship. These traditions later inspired Catalan Modernisme and continue to influence ceramic artists today. Inspired by these stories, you’ll create your own ceramic piece. Choose from mugs, cups (up to 300 ml), bowls, decorative tiles, plates up to 20 cm or small vases. Using professional ceramic paints, you’ll decorate your piece with inspiration from traditional rajoles, Catalan ornamentation, Mediterranean colours, world-famous Modernisme movement or your own original ideas. No artistic experience is required. We’ll guide you step by step while keeping the relaxed atmosphere of hora de vermut, where creativity and conversation naturally come together. After painting, your ceramic piece will be professionally glazed and kiln-fired, making it durable and suitable for everyday use. It is usually ready for collection within 2–3 days. This experience is perfect for solo travellers, couples, friends and families looking for an authentic cultural experience rather than a typical workshop. Bookings for one or two guests usually join a small group, creating a warm atmosphere where travellers can meet while sharing food, conversation and creativity. You’ll leave with much more than a handmade ceramic souvenir. You’ll take home a deeper understanding of Catalan culture and a unique ceramic piece inspired by one of the region’s oldest artistic traditions.
