Funicular Railway to Tibidabo Mountain

With a journey of a bit more than one kilometre, a Funicular will take you from the Tramvia Blau tram end station at Plaça del Doctor Andreu square to the top of the Tibidabo Mountain.

Once on the top of Tibidabo you can enjoy some of the most beautiful views over the city of Barcelona, not to mention the Tibidabo amusement park and a beautiful church, the Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart.

The funicular was inaugurated in 1901, the same year as the Tramvia Blau, and the five minute ride is operated every 30 minutes by old graffiti painted carriages.

Price for a return ticket = 7,70 €

There is also another option to get to the Tibidabo station Funicular from J.F.Kennedy square. Right next to the Tramvia Blau stop there is the 196 bus stop that will also take you to the Plaça del Doctor Andreu square and for that journey it is possible to use the same T-10 ticket you can use for other forms of transport comprising the integrated public transport system in Barcelona.

Price for a bus Single Ticket = 2,15 €

Price for a bus T-10 ticket = 10,30 €

To get to the Tibidabo mountain area, there is also another funicular railway in Barcelona, but this is more of a commuter train for local residents to travel from the city of Barcelona to the town of Vallvidrera.

This funicular service starts from the Plaça Catalunya FGC train station with lines S1, S2, S5 and S55 and, after several station stops within the city, at the Peu del Funicular station you have to change to go to the Vallvidrera Inferior funicular station. From there the funicular starts climbing the hill up to the Tibidabo Mountain.

The carriages of the Funicular to Vallvidrera operate automatically and are as easy to use as an elevator. You just need to press the button to go up or down and the carriage will stop as it passes.

A single ticket for the funicular to Vallvidrera costs 2,15€, but you can also use your T-10 ticket (= 10,30 €), a more convenient option.

The city of Barcelona also boasts a vast green area, the Tibidabo Mountain. If you feel like breathing some fresh air and doing some exercise we suggest that you get off at the middle station on the Funicular to Vallvidrera to go for a stroll along the Carretera de les Aigües.

This is a popular place for people to practise sports activities such as jogging or cycling and the area is excellent for having a picnic or just contemplating the spectacular views over the city of Barcelona.
