Barcelona Churches, Basilica of La Mercè
Located in the Gòtic district of Barcelona the Baroque-style Basilica de la Mare de Déu de la Mercè was built in the XVIII century and is dedicated to La Mercè, the patron of the city of Barcelona.
Many years ago when Barça didn't win so many matches as it does nowadays, it was tradition for the whole team, including trainers and the President to take an offering of flowers to the Virgin to give thanks for a win.
The view of the large sculpture of La Mercè on the church dome at sunset from the Barceloneta district is not to be missed.
